4.6 and Zero on the Checklist: The Day Lior in the Park Carried Everything
What the Numbers Actually Said
4.6 and reflective. That’s the headline, and it’s honest. The dashboard doesn’t flatter you on a day like this — it just lays the pieces out and lets you look at them.
Family was a 7. Finance a 6. Health a 6. And then the floor drops: faith at 3, learning at 4, work at 5 — and habits at a flat, undeniable 2. The habit checklist read 0 of 12. Not “I got the important ones.” Zero. The whole thing dropped on the floor.
The one-line summary wrote itself before I did: Lior in the park saved the day; everything else fell short. That’s not spin. That’s the day.
The Two Things That Were Real
The park walk with Lior. I triple-logged gratitude for it, which — if you know how my logging usually goes — is the tell. I don’t write the same thing down three times unless it actually landed. He was chasing leaves, I was down at his height, and for twenty minutes there was no checklist, no overdue pile, no deadline breathing on my neck. Just a kid with green eyes and a dropped shoe. That’s the brightest thing on the whole board and I’m not going to apologize for it carrying a 4.6 day.
The swim happened too. 1,050m recovery-grade, 16:24 in the water. It went in two hours later than I promised myself, but it went in. Keeping a promise late still beats breaking it. Credit where it’s due — the body got used.

The Part I Have to Own
Zero of twelve. Tefillin didn’t happen. Charity didn’t happen. That’s why faith is sitting at a 3, and it should be — you can’t score honest on a dimension you didn’t show up for. The thing about a zeroed checklist is it’s never really about any single item. It’s about the morning. I went to bed at 01:44 the night before, ran the day on 5.25 hours, and started already behind. Behind compounds. You don’t drop one habit when you’re that tired — you drop all of them, because the scaffolding that holds the little things never got built that morning.
Work was a 5 and that’s generous. The overdue pile is still sitting there, all of it past end-of-September, with October now live and the real window on a current project opening in days. An Oct 31 deadline that felt theoretical in August is now 30 days out and very much not theoretical. The portfolio was green — MU up a touch, VST up a touch, a small net positive day — but finance being a 6 while work is a 5 and habits are a 2 tells you exactly where the drift is. The investing takes care of itself. The discipline doesn’t.

So here’s tomorrow, and it’s not ambitious, it’s basic: in bed by 23:00, because the last two nights are the actual root cause of today. Tefillin and at least three habits before I leave the house — not all twelve, just enough to prove the morning exists. And close one overdue task on the project, just one, to stop the pile from winning. The open question I’m sitting with tonight: if a twenty-minute walk with my son can save a 4.6 day, why do I keep treating the mornings that make those walks possible like they’re optional? Yalla — fix the morning, the rest follows.
