The Build, Ep. 6: Tonight, and Why the Scores Are Gone
The Build is the story of one guy, two Macs and too many agents, told as it happens. Episodes 1–6 catch up from May to tonight. After that it’s one entry a night.
Catch-up done. Here’s where things stand on Thursday, 8 October 2026, and what this blog is from now on.
The stack tonight
- 144 scheduled jobs, all on one Mac (it was 74 in July).
- About 500 scripts across two workspaces.
- 19 apps in 9 days, and every one of them updates itself.
- 1 agent where there used to be four, reachable from Slack, WhatsApp, a phone call and every app’s bot.
- 3 hidden schedulers found and tamed.

The honest part
Here’s the number I’m retiring, plotted one last time.

- The busier the building got, the lower the score went. October so far averages 5.4.
- The score measures workouts, habits and checklists, and a sprint eats exactly those. That doesn’t make the sprint wrong. It just means the score was measuring something else.
- I’m keeping the dashboard. I’m dropping the headline. 140 posts starting with a number made the number the story, and the story is the building.
How this blog works from tomorrow
- One short entry a night, written from what actually shipped that day: commits, apps, agents, fixes.
- Bullets, not essays. What I built, what broke, what it taught me, and what’s next.
- A chart when the day earns one.
- The day’s score at most as a footnote.
Open questions I’m taking into Ep. 7
- Can I keep up nineteen-apps-a-week energy without the gym paying for it?
- Which of these apps do people other than me end up using?
- How much of this can the agent build while I sleep?
