6.8 and Running on Fumes: The Day the Habit Board Held and Nutrition Cratered
What the numbers actually said
6.8 today. Mood: reflective. And when I look at the dimension scores, the day splits cleanly down the middle in a way that’s almost too on-the-nose to be an accident.
Faith: 8. Habits: 8. Family: 7. Goals: 7. That’s the skeleton of a well-built day. Tefillin done. Middot check-in logged — this week’s middah is patience over reactivity. Lior’s Gan habit checked. One “notice-and-be-curious” question logged for Daphna. The scaffolding held.
Then the other half: Health 5. System 5. Finance 5. And the one-liner the dashboard spat out is brutal in its accuracy — “Erev Shabbat held, nutrition cratered.”
860 calories by 10 PM
Let me just say the ugly number out loud: 860 calories logged, 54g of protein against a 130g goal. For a body carrying a real training load and a 3300 TDEE, that’s not a deficit, that’s a hole. Even correcting for the photo-bias in my food logging, I’m maybe at 1100 actual. Call it a 2000-calorie gap.
Here’s the part I don’t get to hide behind: it wasn’t a diet decision. It was avoidance dressed up as busyness. The day got packed — meetings, a Garmin config, shul at 19:30 — and I let the calendar eat my nutrition strategy instead of owning it. I never said “before this block, I eat a real breakfast.” I just responded to whatever felt urgent next.
Which is exactly the failure mode patience over reactivity is supposed to catch. I journaled the middah. I did not live it. The gap between the check-in and the behavior is the whole lesson today.
Training tells the same story. No swim. No weights. No BJJ. 32 minutes of mobility and that’s it. The only thing that saved the health line from being a 3 is that I came into today on excellent sleep — 89, strong deep and REM. Rest carried me. Discipline didn’t.

The half that held
Fine. But I refuse to write this like it was a bad day, because it wasn’t. The faith stack is real. Wrapping tefillin, doing the middot work, keeping Lior’s routine, logging one genuine question about Daphna’s world — those aren’t box-checks, those are the non-negotiables and they held on a chaotic Friday. That’s the thing about a habit board: it’s most honest on the days you don’t feel like showing up.
The portfolio kept doing quiet work in the background — positions stable, the recursion-loop thesis intact, nothing that needs me to touch it. Finance sitting at a 5 is a spend-side flag, not a strategy flag. Travel and misc leaked this month. That’s a system problem, and system is also a 5, so — noted, both of you.
Where I flatlined completely was the private layer. No reflections logged until now. Signal-dark. A whole interior day that went unrecorded. For someone who builds a Life OS specifically to see himself, a blank private layer is its own kind of miss.

Tomorrow is Shabbat proper. No screens, no portfolio, no grinding — just Daphna and Lior and being fully in the room. But I need to walk into it fed and rested, not depleted from a self-inflicted fast. So today’s real work is boring and physical: eat three actual meals before sundown, hit protein, log everything. The question I’m sitting with is the uncomfortable one — if I can build a system disciplined enough to never miss tefillin, why can’t that same system make me eat lunch? Yalla. Fix the input before you blame the output.
