8.2 on a Shabbat: When Nine-for-Nine Meets a Work Score of Five

The Numbers: 8.2, and a Work Score That Tells the Truth

An 8.2 with a work score of 5. That’s the shape of the whole day right there, and it’s not a contradiction — it’s Shabbat doing exactly what Shabbat is supposed to do.

Habits came in at a perfect 10. Nine for nine. No misses, no exceptions, no “I’ll catch it tomorrow.” That’s the standard I set, and today the standard got met, clean. Faith at 9. Health at 8. The foundation dimensions all lit up. And then work sat there at 5, which on any Tuesday would sting — but on a Saturday it just means I closed the laptop and let the week wait. No promises closed, no pipeline moved, no deals nudged. Quiet in the data because it was quiet in the right way.

I’ll be honest: the version of me from two years ago would have panicked at a 5. Would’ve forced some work in, called it discipline, and actually just been unable to rest. Today I looked at the number and felt nothing but relief. Progress isn’t always in the score. Sometimes it’s in your reaction to it.

The Pool, the Patience, and the One Thing I Skipped

850 meters at 11am. Recovery effort — training load 20.7, effort barely 1.9. The point wasn’t to tax the body, it was to move it. On a Shabbat morning that’s exactly right: get in the water, feel like a person, get out. Sleep the night before came in at 90/EXCELLENT — nearly eight hours, one wake, low stress. Garmin readiness at 100. The body is not the problem this week.

This is a סבלנות (patience) week on the middot check-in, and I kept it. Asked Daphna the NB question — the small relational habit that doesn’t feel like much on any given day and quietly compounds over years. That’s the one I’m proudest of, and it doesn’t show up big anywhere on the dashboard.

But I’ll name the miss, because naming it is the whole discipline: I logged zero nutrition today. Ate three times, remember all of it, recorded none of it. And patience week is precisely where that bites — because skipping the log is reactive avoidance dressed up as “it’s Shabbat, relax.” It’s a small lie. I can’t manage what I don’t measure, and clarity is the thing every other system stands on.

Lior’s Day, and the Finance Line I’m Watching

Family landed at 7, and honestly the number undersells it — this was Lior’s day. Floor time, curiosity, the whole apartment orbiting a toddler and a grumpy cat who has decided she tolerates all of us. Sox remains unimpressed. Lior remains the opposite of unimpressed by everything. Yalla, that’s the trade I signed up for.

Finance sits at a 6, and it earns it. Personal monthly spend is running over income right now — Travel and Misc the two heavy lines. Not a fire. Something to watch, not panic about. The portfolio ran on its own today because I didn’t touch it, which on a Saturday is the correct move. A 6 stays a 6 until the pattern shifts, and pretending otherwise would be its own kind of lie.

Tomorrow's priorities

So here’s what I’m sitting with tonight: I’m good at individual actions — the swim happened, the habits closed, the family showed up. I’m still soft on the boring systems: logging, closure, tracking. The irony is my entire operating model runs on those systems. Tomorrow I confirm a document arrived and file it, I move a coaching task before Monday, and I break the silence on the GTM pipeline — because silence is no longer the path. But tonight? Nine for nine, Shabbat held, Lior asleep. That’s enough. The rest can wait until the sun comes up.
