9/10 With 5.9 Hours of Sleep: The Day the Tracker Lied a Little
What the Numbers Actually Said
9 out of 10. Mood: productive. On paper this was one of the cleanest days I’ve logged in weeks — habits at a perfect 10, learning at 10, work at 9, faith at 9. The one-liner practically wrote itself: 14/14 habits, book closed, office fired on all cylinders.
And most of that is true. I hit every habit. No excuses needed, no “well, four out of five.” Fourteen for fourteen. I finished The Mom Test — book #26 this year — and it closed at a genuinely useful moment given the arc I’m working through. Work was legitimately strong: I rebranded an idea in front of the room, the recognition landed, the training session ran twice. The charge on that was real, not manufactured.
So why does the header of this post call the tracker a liar?
Health Says 7. Sleep Says Sit Down.
Because the 9 is riding on top of 5.9 hours of sleep. FAIR score, 73. REM at 15%, which is low. Stress still elevated. Health landed at a 7, and honestly the 7 is generous — it’s propped up by the stuff I can control. I logged the strength session, I logged mobility, I hit 140g of protein at 106% of calories. Discipline was there.
But fat came in at 108g against a 60g target. That’s 180% over. The scrambled eggs with cheese, the mayo on the tuna, the cottage cheese — none of it careless, but none of it restrained either. And with the photo-logging low bias, the real number is probably higher.

Here’s the honest math: a perfect habit day built on 5.9 hours and a fat blowout is a 9 that’s borrowing against tomorrow. Two weeks of this and the body sends the invoice. The tracker rewards what I did. It doesn’t fully price what I’m quietly spending down. That’s the gap between a good day and a sustainable one, and today I was on the wrong side of it while smiling about the streak.
The Stuff I Chose to Let Slide
Two overdue tasks are still sitting there — Coaching Playbooks (overdue since the 7th) and Starwest prep (overdue since the 3rd). I saw them. I chose to service the calendar instead and let them hang. That’s a real decision, not an accident, and I’d rather name it than pretend I forgot. When the work in the room is genuinely humming, the async stuff on the side gets orphaned. I know the pattern.
Finance sits at a 6, and it deserves eyes. Personal spend is running hot for the cycle, driven almost entirely by travel and SaaS. Some of those are seasonal and defensible. Some are just leakage I’ve stopped feeling because it’s on autopay. Yalla — that’s a review, not a panic, but it’s a review.

Tomorrow the assignment writes itself: push the Intent Engine toward something shippable before its deadline, actually close Coaching Playbooks instead of admiring it, and — the recurring one — get to bed earlier. Protect recovery before Shabbat. The open question I’m sitting with tonight: is a 9 that costs me my REM actually a 9, or is it just a really well-decorated 7? I think I already know the answer. The hard part is acting like it when the day feels this good.
