8.4 and Underfed: The Day Shabbat Won and My Fork Lost

What the Numbers Said

8.4 and a mood tag of “reflective.” On paper that’s a great Saturday. Family came in at a 9, learning at a 9, faith at an 8, habits at an 8. Shabbat kept clean, no violations, book finished, an epic day with my mom. That’s the day I was supposed to have, and I mostly had it.

But the score I keep staring at is health — a 7 — and honestly that’s generous. Because underneath it are two workouts I’m proud of and a nutrition log I’m embarrassed by. And work? A 5. On Shabbat that’s fine. It’s a rest day. But a 5 with system also sitting at 5 tells me tomorrow has to do some carrying.

The Good, and It Was Genuinely Good

The pool this morning was the highlight. 1km, steady, meditative, no rushing — the water was the right temperature and I just went. Later, HIIT for 48 minutes. Two sessions logged, both intentional, both showed up for. Sleep was solid at 7.35 hours, resting HR 42, stress sitting at 15. My body was doing its part.

And the family dimension earned its 9. Full day with my mom, the win from last night’s dinner still warm in the body, Lior in the mix, Daphna carrying her half and me trying to carry mine. This is the whole point of Shabbat — it’s supposed to hold weight, and today it did. Faith at an 8, habits at an 8, middah kept. Yalla, that’s a good Shabbat.

The Fork That Let Me Down

Here’s the honest part. I burned real energy in the pool and the HIIT and then fed myself 860 calories and 66 grams of protein. That’s 43% of my calorie target and barely half the protein. Chicken breast, overnight oats, pistachios — and then I just… drifted. Got light on appetite midday, never planned a real lunch, let the day float by on good vibes and cold coffee.

A day of great movement plus poor fueling isn’t a health win. It’s a mismatch. And it’s a pattern, not a one-off, which is what actually bothers me. You don’t get to train twice and then eat like a bird and call it discipline. That’s a deficit that compounds.

The system score at 5 hurts for a dumber reason: my automations misfired and I didn’t notice until night. A few scheduled jobs no-showed silently. Cron’s degrading somewhere and I let it slide. And GOOG got hammered around 7% on the day, which pulled the portfolio down hard — not a crisis, thesis intact, but not a fun print to see on a Saturday either.

The One That Doesn’t Resolve With a Good Score

There’s a war-threat conversation from today that’s still sitting in me. No dashboard dimension captures that. You can post an 8.4 and still have something heavy in the chest that a mood tag can’t touch. Living here means some undercurrents don’t clear just because you swam a clean kilometer and finished your book.

Tomorrow's priorities

So: strong Shabbat, weak fork, one silent-failing pipeline, and one conversation I can’t tidy up. Tomorrow the assignment is simple — refuel like an adult, 2000 kcal and 130g protein, no excuses after a double-training day. Fix the automations. Stop treating pipeline contacts as the critical path and actually start live conversations. The body did its job today. Now I have to do mine. Open question I’m sitting with: why is it so much easier for me to show up for the hard thing (two workouts) than the boring one (three real meals)?
