6.4 and a Milestone Wrapped in a Miss: Lior’s First Gan Sleep

Sitting here at 22:15 with a 6.4 on the board and a mood the system tagged “reflective,” which is the polite word for what happens when a real win and a real miss land on the same day and refuse to cancel each other out.

What the numbers actually said

Family came in at 8. That’s the headline and it earned it. Today was Lior’s first sleep at Gan — his first, with Daphna right there in the picture, and it landed. That’s not a logistics win, that’s a milestone. You spend months in the mechanics of parenting — the drop-offs, the naps, the small negotiations — and then a thing happens that you’ll actually remember. Charge 3. It hit right.

Habits held at 9 — twelve of thirteen checked, 92% completion, in bed by 11. That’s clean execution by any honest measure. Learning ticked to 8. System 7, finance 7, budget check done. On a lot of days that’s the whole story and I’d be writing something smug.

But then there’s health at 4, and health at 4 is the thing I have to sit with.

Daily dimension visualization

The bug, and the miss underneath it

A stomach bug ran interference all day. That’s real — I’m not going to pretend it wasn’t. But here’s the honest read: no training got logged. None. The calendar had a run/swim and a swim & sauna penciled in, and I can’t find a shred of evidence either happened. No Garmin recording, no movement. The bug is context, not an excuse, and the trainingLift penalty sticks whether I like it or not.

The part that actually stings isn’t the missed workout. It’s the open pool promise from the middot ledger. This is זריזות week — time integrity — and I made an actual commitment to be in the water at 2pm. I didn’t close it. Didn’t reschedule it explicitly either. I just let it go soft. And the whole point of זריזות is that you don’t let promises go soft. You keep them, with witnesses, tracked, closed. So this week, on the exact dimension I’m trying to sharpen, the commitment slipped through my fingers.

Tefillin, and a pattern worth watching

Faith came in at 5. Tefillin skipped — Sunday, no morning anchor. One day is a day. Two days running is a pattern, and I’ve watched enough of these to know that’s how the anchor quietly disappears. Tomorrow there’s no reason to miss it. If I write that here I have to mean it.

What I keep coming back to is that the bug didn’t kill the day. That says something. The scaffolding held — the habits, the family note, the system chugging along in the background sending its briefs. A weaker structure would have collapsed into a 3. Instead the good stuff carried the weight while the body sat one out. That’s the argument for building the systems in the first place: they hold you up on the days you can’t hold yourself.

Tomorrow's priorities

Tomorrow is a clean slate and the list is short and specific. Get to the pool — close the promise, זריזות in action, no half-measures with the water. Put on tefillin. Triage the backlog and actually close a few things instead of admiring them. A 6.4 with Lior’s milestone in it isn’t a bad day — it’s a good day I owe an apology to my own body for. Recovery tomorrow starts with showing up. Yalla.
