7.8 and the Protein I Skipped: A Day That Mostly Held
What the numbers said
7.8 out of 10. Mood: productive. That’s a good day by my own scoring, and yet the thing I keep circling back to at almost midnight isn’t the win — it’s the 61 grams of protein I didn’t eat.
The dashboard is honest in a way I find almost annoying. Habits hit 10/10 — all 16 completed, with the 7-day average sitting at 98%. That’s not a fluke anymore; that’s a machine that’s running. Faith landed at 8 — tefillin, the meditation, the small dailies with Daphna and Lior that I almost don’t notice doing anymore because they’ve become structural. Learning hit 9 because I closed Crucial Conversations on a weekday, which is real signal. Book number 34, three-day reading streak intact.
And then health sat at 6. Work at 6. Finance at 6. The soft middle of the day, the stuff that “mostly held.”
The protein miss, which is the real story
129 grams against a 190 goal. 68%. I logged 7 meals, so it’s not that I forgot to eat — it’s that I ate the wrong shape of food. Carbs ran 143% of target. Quinoa, oatmeal, toast. The cottage cheese was in the fridge. The shaker was on the counter. This wasn’t an availability problem; it was a behavioral one, and those are the ones that sting because I can’t blame logistics.
I swam 650m in the afternoon — cut it a little short to make it back for family time, which I’d make the same call on ten times out of ten. But here’s the math that doesn’t lie: a training session plus a 61g protein deficit equals compromised recovery. I did the hard part and skipped the cheap part. Yalla, that’s just sloppy.
Sleep data is three days stale, last recorded the 20th. So I can’t even tell you if I slept well. That’s not a pass, it’s an honest unknown, and I’m logging it as one.

The portfolio bled, and I did nothing
Red across the board today. MU down 11% on its own. NVDA, AVGO, IBIT all in the red. The Aschenbrenner thesis is a multi-year bet on a recursion loop, not a Tuesday, and I keep having to remind myself of that on days like this. I didn’t sell anything. I didn’t even feel the urge, which is progress — a year ago a day like this would’ve cost me an hour of staring.
Composure through a red day is a skill I actually needed more than a perfect workout. Finance scored 6, which feels about right: on track over the long arc, down on the day, nothing to do but note it and move on.
Work also at 6. Solid-neutral. The task queues are genuinely heavy and I’m trying to retrain myself to track what I closed instead of staring at the open count like it’s an indictment. The career transition I’m working toward needs one concrete action tomorrow, not a panic about the backlog.

So here’s the day in one line, the same one the dashboard gave me: perfect habits, book closed, family first — protein short. I’ll take that trade most days. But the open question I’m sitting with is this: the habits I’ve automated are flawless, and the one thing today that required a real-time decision — what to put on the plate — is exactly where I slipped. Maybe the next system isn’t more discipline. Maybe it’s just planning the protein before the day starts so there’s no decision left to make. Tomorrow we find out.
