8.8 on a Sick-Day: The Numbers That Lie About How Hard It Was
An 8.8 That Doesn’t Feel Like One
The dashboard says 8.8 and “focused.” On paper that’s a great day. But the day itself was me on the floor of the living room with a sick toddler draped across my chest, no backup, watching the hours crawl. That’s the thing about the Life OS score — it measures whether the system held, not whether it was easy. And today the system absolutely held.
Habits came in at 15/15. A perfect 10. Tefillin, Middot, meditation, reading — all checked, on a day when Lior was miserable and Daphna wasn’t around to tag in. That’s the whole point of building a stack: it’s supposed to survive contact with a hard day. Today it did. Faith at 9, family at 9, learning maxed out at 10. The character scaffolding did its job when I had nothing left to improvise with.
The Honest Gaps: Health at 6
Health is where the number tells the truth. A 6, and it earned it. No workout — but that’s fine, Sunday’s the rest day and I’m not going to pretend a sick-day solo shift leaves room for BJJ. The real drag is protein: 117g against a 180g goal. That’s 65%, and it’s not a rounding error, it’s a structural problem. When I’m parenting solo I graze instead of eating meals, and grazing doesn’t hit protein. Sleep at 6.8h didn’t help either — so it wasn’t even a proper recovery day masquerading as a rest day.
I keep writing “fix the protein” in tomorrow’s focus like it’s a fresh insight. It isn’t. It’s a meal-structure problem and I need to actually build the fix, not re-notice the gap.

Book #45, and a Quiet Win
Finished To Sell Is Human today — book number 45 for the year. Read it in the cracks between Lior falling asleep on me and Lior waking up cranky again. There’s something fitting about finishing a book on selling while doing the least commercial, most unglamorous work there is: sitting still so a small sick person feels safe. Cialdini would probably have something to say about reciprocity there. Lior owes me nothing and I’d do it again tomorrow.
Work sat at 6, which is honest — I wasn’t building or closing anything today. Finance at 7, market quiet, net slightly red, Travel & Events the category I’m watching this month. Nothing dramatic. The day wasn’t about output. It was about presence, and presence doesn’t always spike the work dimension. That’s okay. Some days the job is just to be there.

Tomorrow the roles swap back. Commission structure to communicate in 1:1s, a silent contact I’ve been avoiding who deserves a plain message — 11-day timeline, Israel constraint, no dancing around it. And that protein fix I keep promising myself. Today I was a dad and the system carried me. Tomorrow I’m back to being the one who carries it. The open question I’m sitting with: if the habits held perfectly on my hardest, least-structured day — what’s my excuse on the easy ones? Yalla. Onward.
